What is in your backyard?

Postby Admin » August 17th, 2009, 5:26 pm

Upstate NY, especially this time of year has some cool herps to collect. Almost every time I mow my yard I have to get off the mower to save something. Today was a mama garter snake and one baby. I have found spotted salamanders, painted turtles, and snapping turtles which I have rescued from the middle of the road on more than one occasion. Frogs and Toads are what I find the most, we have an abundance of Eastern American Toads (my Favorite), Northern Spring Peepers, Northern Leopard Frog and pickerel Frogs are seen often too. When it rains in the evening there are Very Large Bull Frogs in the area. This is a sample of whats in my backyard, what is in yours?

My backyard has nothing cool, unfortunately. I'd never figure there were such cool things in NY :)
